I draw people from life, working in charcoal to capture more than just their likeness. Each portrait — whether a close view of the head and shoulders or a full figure — is an attempt to reveal something of the person’s inner world: their energy, posture, and presence.
Drawing is both an academic practice and a personal exploration for me. It’s a discipline of close observation, a way of staying with someone long enough to see beyond surface appearance. Through line, value, and gesture, I try to share an insight or spark of empathy — something that speaks to who they are rather than simply what they look like.
For me, these drawings are records of attention. They’re about understanding another person through the slow process of looking, offering that understanding back to the viewer.
